What is tinplate?

After the iron is tinned, it is called tinplate. Mainly used for food packaging.

What is the material of tinplate?
Tinplate is made of a low-carbon thin steel plate.

Tinplate, also known as tin-plated iron, is the common name for electro-tinned thin steel plate. The English abbreviation is SPTE, which refers to cold-rolled low-carbon thin steel plates or steel strips plated with commercially pure tin on both sides. Tin mainly plays a role in preventing corrosion and rust. It combines the strength and formability of steel with the corrosion resistance, solderability, and beautiful appearance of tin in one material. It has the characteristics of corrosion resistance, non-toxicity, high strength, and good ductility.

Because of its strong oxidation resistance, diverse styles, and exquisite printing, tinplate packaging containers are popular among customers and are widely used in food packaging, pharmaceutical packaging, daily necessities packaging, instrument packaging, industrial packaging, etc.

With the continuous improvement and perfection of tinplate printing technology and processing technology, tinplate packaging has become more and more widely used. At present, the production capacity of domestically produced tinplate continues to increase, and the import of tinplate will gradually decrease. Except for some high-end products, a small amount of imports has been basically self-sufficient. The demand of my country's packaging industry puts forward higher requirements on the quantity and quality of metal packaging.

Tinplate, commonly known as tinplate (SPTE), refers to a cold-rolled thin steel plate coated with a thin layer of tin metal. It has certain strength and hardness, good formability, and easy welding. The tin layer is non-toxic and tasteless, and the surface is bright. Tin mainly plays a role in preventing corrosion and rust.
Tinplate (commonly known as tinplate) is a steel product with a punchable thin steel plate as the base, tinned on the surface, and with multiple protective films (layers). It has the characteristics of corrosion resistance, non-toxic, odorless, surface gloss, high strength, easy printing, easy welding and processing, and strong adaptability to ambient temperature.

Therefore, more than 70% of the total output of tinplate is used for food and beverage packaging. In addition, it is also used for packaging and raw materials in chemical and pharmaceutical, electromechanical, hardware, telecommunications, and instrument industries.

The main feature of tin-plated steel sheet is that the tin-plated layer has the dual performance of electrochemical cathode and anode protection, that is, the inner wall of food cans containing complex mixtures (or weak acid hydrolysis substances) and a certain vacuum.

The potential is lower than the base material iron, tin is the anode, and its dissolution protects the iron. During the validity period of the food can, the dissolution amount of tin is basically harmless to the human body; and the outer wall is in the atmosphere, and the tin plating layer is also a cathode Protected to state, with sufficient chemical stability, which is unmatched by other can-making materials.

There are two production methods: hot-dip plating and electroplating. The thickness of the tin-plated layer of the hot-dip method is thick and uneven, and the thickness of the coating is also difficult to control, consumes a large amount of tin, and is low inefficiency. Its application is limited, so it is gradually eliminated by the electroplating method. The electroplating method uses an electroplating process to evenly plate a tin film on the steel substrate.
